A decade ago, I kicked off my corporate heels and bought a small business, far away from the city. Fast forward to today, I now run a multi-million dollar business, my workload has halved and my life makes me happy every single day.

I’d be lying if I told you it was like this from the beginning. My business journey, together with all its ups and downs, has made me passionate about helping others create the business of their dreams – just like I was able to do for myself.

When our small business journey began, I thought I had all the skills I needed to run and grow a profitable enterprise.

I had years of experience in product-based businesses. From fashion, homewares, furniture, sporting goods, bedding, underwear, manufacturing, retail and wholesaling, both Australian and International. I’ve seen a lot – holding and excelling in senior finance roles in more than a few high-profile companies.

But it turns out that knowing how to grow the profit of a large company is very different to turning the wheels of a small one, where you need to be a master of EVERYTHING. Small businesses are unique and the emotional and financial stress is real.

It took a lot of learning, re-direction and practise to get my business, Sol Breads Northern NSW, and my work/life balance, where it is today.
